PBA: Rain or Shine to play Ginebra, Magnolia in Bahrain

27/09 20:01

The PBA will hold games in Bahrain for the first time this December, featuring Barangay Ginebra, Magnolia, and Rain or Shine. Rain or Shine is scheduled to play both matches, first against Magnolia on December 15 and then against Ginebra on December 17 at the Khalifa Sports City Arena.

These games are part of the elimination round schedule for the Philippine Cup, which marks the beginning of the league's 50th season. This event represents the second confirmed overseas game for the PBA, following a match between Ginebra and San Miguel Beer scheduled for October 26 in Dubai. Dubai previously hosted a similar event during the 2019 Governors' Cup, involving NLEX, San Miguel, and Ginebra, with Yeng Guiao—now the coach of Rain or Shine—coaching NLEX at that time.

Additional overseas games are being planned for the season, including potential matches in Saudi Arabia and New York City. The New York game is tentatively set for June 2026, pending finalization. The Bahrain trip was officially arranged in July by PBA commissioner Willie Marcial and Bahrain Basketball Association president Alaa Mudara, with involvement from Abdulla Malabes of the BBA, who is the father of former La Salle guard and Bahrain national team veteran Bader. The matches will take place during the same week as Bahrain's National Day celebrations.
