Loss to Beermen spurs FiberXers to win over Bossing

09/11 08:01

Converge coach Dennis Pineda reflected on the team's recent loss to San Miguel Beer, viewing it as a valuable learning opportunity for the young squad to gain experience against champion-level teams. In the PBA Philippine Cup, Converge rebounded from that defeat by securing a 99-94 win over Blackwater, improving their record to 4-2 in the standings.

Alec Stockton led Converge's offense with 28 points, while Blackwater's late-game errors, including two turnovers by Christian David in the final seconds, contributed to their loss. Rookie Juan Gomez de Liaño added 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals, and Archie Concepcion's two three-pointers in the third quarter helped Converge establish a 74-62 lead before Blackwater attempted a comeback.

Despite Sedrick Barefield's 33-point effort for Blackwater, the team fell to a 1-5 record, tying them at the bottom of the standings with Phoenix Fuel Masters and Terrafirma Dyip. Looking ahead, Converge faces another tough challenge against Barangay Ginebra, with Coach Pineda emphasizing the need for thorough preparation to compete against perennial giants.

In related PBA news, the league postponed Sunday's doubleheader at Ynares Center II due to the threat of Super Typhoon Uwan, prioritizing safety. The affected games were TNT versus Magnolia and Ginebra against Titan Ultra.
