Canada 13-33 England: Red Roses win Women's Rugby World Cup
England secured their third Women's Rugby World Cup title by defeating Canada 33-13 in the final at Twickenham, marking a dominant performance in front of a record crowd of 81,885 spectators.
The match began with Canada taking an early lead through a try by winger Asia Hogan-Rochester, but England quickly responded with a sensational solo try from Ellie Kildunne. England then took control with additional tries from hooker Amy Cokayne and number eight Alex Matthews, while Canada's Sophie de Goede kicked a penalty to keep the score close. In the second half, Abbie Ward scored for England, followed by Hogan-Rochester's second try for Canada, but Matthews sealed the victory with another try from close range after stout defence.
This victory was particularly significant for England, as it ended their streak of losing the previous two finals to New Zealand and extended their record winning run to 33 games, with their last loss dating back to the 2021 World Cup final. The Red Roses' win was built on powerful forward play and ferocious defence, laying to rest the ghosts of past defeats.
Canada, who had impressed by comfortably defeating New Zealand in the semi-finals and were close to achieving a million-dollar fundraising goal to compete with top teams, were outperformed on the big stage. England's triumph marked their first world championship since 2014, when they also beat Canada in the final.
